Gabby Salinas is an immigrant from Bolivia and healthcare advocate who is running for this open seat because she believes in American values. Salinas migrated to the United States with her parents at the age of 7 to seek treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for her cancer. She is dedicated to giving back to the city that has supported her through her hardships. She has supported legislation that would allow students with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to receive in-state tuition at Tennessee universities, and has also been outspoken about her opposition to a bill in 2018 that would have forced local police to serve as immigration enforcement officers.
