Mark Hetfield

Mark Hetfield is the President and CEO of HIAS, the global refugee agency of the American Jewish community. Founded in 1881, HIAS is the oldest organization in the world that is dedicated to refugees, and is one of the nine national refugee resettlement in the United States.  Since being named HIAS’ President and CEO in 2013, Mark has led the transformation of HIAS from helping refugees because they were Jewish to helping refugees because we are Jewish, assisting forcibly displaced persons regardless of faith or ethnicity.  Currently operating in 17 countries, HIAS is an implementing partner of UNHCR. With over thirty years of public, private and non-profit experience in the field of immigrants and forcibly displaced persons, Mark is a frequent commentator and writer on refugee issues on television, radio, newspapers, and other media outlets. Mark holds both a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University.
